Corrine
Thanks for your comment. We can still ask questions like "what did I accomplish", or "what am I pleased with", but get in the habit of appreciating the small things - getting a smile back when we greeted someone; stopping to enjoy a nice view or smell the flowers. These things are as important as the "big stuff", if not more so.

Dear David -

I like this part -

"Having a Chapter entitled “Lower Your Expectations” may clash with the aspirational, acquisition driven lifestyle that most of us seem to live. Quotes of Taoist wisdom come as a welcome relief."

I have always found that if you don't expect a lot - you get a a lot more. Especially with people you love.

People somehow rise to any need you may have. They don't feel pressured or guilty. They just show up.

I think you can also apply it to yourself.

I have to really stop myself from asking at night, "What did you accomplish today?"

I don't know why we feel that we owe to justify our existance.

Sometimes, the best answer for the day is "nothing much."

Debbie
Thanks for your comment. Sometimes the "exercise" parts can seem mundane and pointless, usually they involve doing something and/or writing. The trouble is, unless we try we will never know if they are any use for us.

This is what I like a about self improvment books. What might work for one person doesn't work for another. When I read a book I take out of it what works for me.

I'm not big on the exercise parts of books, more just the info that it provides.
